
Donald R. Ireland founded Impact Technology in 1982 in Santa Barbara (CA). He was a pioneer in the
development, application and analysis of instrumented impact testing.
The company provides a range of
impact response services and products, including calibration and design of instrumented tups. Services
include training
for evaluation of impact test data and assistance for the design of an impact methodology.
Ireland was responsible for helping
to popularize instrumented impact testing technology by developing of the first commercially-available instrumented
impact system, known as Dynatup®, while at Effects Technology , Inc., and to an even larger worldwide audience,
through an association with The Tinius Olsen Machine Co., Inc.
The author of
more than 50 technical articles, papers and books on fracture and instrumented impact testing, Ireland has a BS in
Physical Metallurgy from the University of Minnesota and a MSE in Materials Engineering from the University of
Michigan. Professional activities and honors have included membership in the American Society for Testing and
Materials, the American Society for Metals, and the Society for Plastics Engineers. Ireland is also listed in Who’s
Who in Science and Engineering.
